5 tips for creating a mood board.

Your brand and your vibe isn’t always easy to pin down. In my experience, mood boards are a fantastic way to organize all those vibes. Personally I feel like Pinterest is the best option because the type of content is extensive and you can easily collect it all in one place. Another option would be to use Canva, or to go to a website like Unsplash that offers royalty-free images.

When I'm creating mood boards for my clients, I hold these questions lightly in my mind as I work. I let inspiration and curiosity guide me and its incredible what comes through.

Here are FIVE tips for creating your mood board:

1. Get in the head space of your future self and future business. This is a chance to recreate yourself and own who you are, so enjoy being in that flow. Journal beforehand, meditate, brainstorm in a way that feels best.

2. Think about words that describe your clients. How do they want to feel after competing their time with you? What does success feel/look like for them? Once they work with you, you want them to see their highest potential. So keep that in mind as you collect words and photos.

3. Is location important to your brand? A lot of us are digital nomads now so location may not be as important but if you are location based, how can you incorporate that into your brand and speak to the humans in your area? If you are on the move or location isn’t as important, are there elements of your physical surroundings that could be relevant? Textures, symbols, nature, touch, taste, smell.

4. What do you, as your business, actually do? Are you a coach who helps women in starting their business? Are you a yoga teacher, breath-work facilitator? Also, what are your values? Are you more money-driven, passionate about helping others, care about continuous learning?

5. Start to notice what aesthetics you feel pulled toward. Are you seeing patterns that are showing up in the photos you are collecting? Are you noticing things that you dislike? This is possibly the most important step. Take everything you’ve gathered and assess it all from a branding perspective.
